Shannon grew up in a small New York town, an hour away from New York City and a stone’s throw from New Jersey. Prior to becoming an owl, Shannon pursued her love of reading and writing and earned her B.A. in English from SUNY Plattsburgh. After graduating, Shannon traveled to Japan to teach English, where she lived and worked in Tokyo and Hiroshima before earning her M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language from Teachers College, Columbia University. Interested in studying abroad? Shannon would love to chat with you about it!

After teaching English in New York City, Shannon’s passion for working with college students led her to Temple’s Center for American Language and Culture, where she taught ESL and coordinated programming for students from around the world. During her time working for the Center, Shannon earned her M.A. in Higher Education and completed her capstone project internship with the fantastic Temple Honors Program. Shannon loves getting to know our Honors students and helping them achieve their goals while at Temple and beyond.

In her free time, Shannon is an avid thru-hiker. From the Adirondacks to the Smokey Mountains to Zion National Park – she can’t get enough of the outdoors! Shannon is also a certified nerd who ranks reading comics and watching cartoons just a bit too high on her list of fun things to do. When she’s not working with our amazing Honors students, you can find Shannon hiking and setting up camp wherever she can, whipping up delicious baked goods, or searching for her next thrift store project. Shannon, her partner, and their little cat Nara live in South Philly.
