FAQs

Are summer courses going to be offered this year?

Yes! Summer courses will be offered and there will be a mix of in-person and online options. The course lists are typically published in March.

Do I need to take summer courses?

Summer courses are not required but are a great way to get ahead, catch up, lighten your load for a future semester or take advantage of every opportunity that Temple offers. You should talk to your academic advisor to determine whether summer courses are right for you.

When can I register for summer courses?

Your exact registration date is determined by your class standing. Registration for current Temple students typically begins in late March or early April. Look for an email inviting you to register for summer courses in March. View the registration schedule.

How do I register for summer courses?

You should register for summer through TUportal in the same way that you would a fall or spring course. Login to TUportal. Click on the Student tab. On the right side under Registration, click Look Up Classes. Acknowledge the student financial responsibility agreement. Choose a term (e.g., 2023 Summer I) and click Submit. Search for the course(s) you are interested in. On the list of results, click the checkbox on the far left side and then click Register.

What courses does Temple offer?

Temple offers thousands of courses each summer in hundreds of areas of study. You can take courses required for your major or minor, finish your GenEds, take a writing intensive course, or check off almost any requirement you may have on your path towards your degree. To see the full course listings, browse our course schedule.

How long are summer courses?

Most summer courses are six weeks long (mid-May to the end of June or the end of June through early August). However, there are also some 12-week courses and some four-week courses (three potential blocks of time).

Do I have to still be on campus to take summer courses?

No. Many of our summer courses are offered either partially or completely online.

How much do Temple’s courses cost?

All summer courses are billed by the credit hour (part-time rate), and costs vary. Your summer bill depends on your school or college, your residency status, and the number of credits you are taking. You will also need to pay the University Services Fee, which all students pay. View the tuition rates and fees.

Is financial aid available?

Financial aid for summer courses is generally very limited. Everyone’s individual situation is different. Please contact Student Financial Services to discuss your situation with an SFS representative.

Can I live on campus?

Yes. Summer housing is available for students who are taking three or more credits over the summer, and is generally limited to one or two specific residence halls. Please visit the Summer Housing page for more details as they become available for this year.

Who do I talk to if I have questions?

If you have questions about specific courses you should take to help you progress towards your degree, you should talk to your academic advisor at your school or college.
