Temple Honors Japan extends the Temple University Honors Program across the globe for students enrolled full-time at Temple University Japan and Main Campus students studying abroad at TUJ. Temple Honors Japan uses The Honors Pillars - intellectual curiosity, inclusive community, social courage, and integrity in leadership - to promote experiential learning rooted in a global community at the Japan Campus in Tokyo and TUJ's Kyoto extension.

New students who are interested in applying for the Honors Program can simply indicate their interest in the Honors Program on the Admitted Student Checklist in the TUJ new student portal: https://connect.tuj.ac.jp/account/login

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF TEMPLE HONORS JAPAN STUDENTS?

Honors requirements at Temple Honors Japan are the same as Main Campus. Students must complete 10 Honors courses by the time they graduate to earn the Honors Certificate. You can read more about Honors Program requirements here.

Honors courses have a distinct philosophy that sets them apart from other Temple classes. Honors courses prioritize depth over difficulty, and aim to create complex learning experiences that emphasize collaboration and innovation. What Honors courses can I take at TUJ?

Honors courses for first-year students will be offered exclusively at TUJ-Kyoto. These include:

  • HNRS 1901: REACT (First-Year Seminar)
  • ENG 0902: Honors Analytical Reading and Writing
  • IH 0951: Honors Intellectual Heritage I: The Good Life
  • IH 0952: Honors Intellectual Heritage II: The Common Good

Additional General Education Honors courses may also be offered at TUJ-Kyoto.

Honors Special Topic courses will be offered at both TUJ-Tokyo and TUJ-Kyoto.

New students interested in Honors are recommended to start their undergraduate experience at TUJ-Kyoto to take full advantage of the Honors courses and learning community.
