Next Steps AmeriCorps Program 2024-2025

What: The Next Steps AmeriCorps Program engages college students in community service, mentoring, supportive workshops, and leadership development.

Participants, known as Corps Members, will do 300 hours of community service in the course of one year. Corps members can choose any kind of regular service placement and will also mentor one or two incoming first-year students as part of their service. Hours spent in training and leadership development also count toward the 300 hours. Corps members will receive a stipend during the year through Federal Work-Study (if they qualify) and will also receive an Education Award of $1,459 upon completion of the 300 hours.

Who: The Next Steps AmeriCorps Program is open to rising sophomores and juniors with permanent residence status who qualify for Federal Work Study or are Pell Grant eligible. Preference is given to individuals who attended local Philadelphia high schools and first-generation students. We will also be looking for incoming freshmen who meet these requirements to serve as mentees. This opportunity is NOT limited to Honors students - anyone interested in leadership and service should apply!

We are looking to recruit for not only mentors, but mentees (first year students that fit the above requirements) to participate as well. Mentees do not need to complete service hours, and are not eligible for Education Award, but eligible to enroll as a Sophomore to our program for the following year if they wish.

When: This year’s program begins August 20, 2024 and ends August 19, 2025. All of the required 300 hours will need to be done during that time frame.

Why: Make a difference in the lives of others and get help and support to get through college. Be a part of a group of leaders on campus and be a part of the national service movement!
