Please thoroughly review the Next Steps page with your student and ensure they have completed all required next steps to arrive on campus. This includes paying their balance, filling out any onboarding paperwork, and preparing to arrive on campus.
If your student is living on campus, review the packing list. This list is also available on their Housing Form on their noncredit.temple.edu account, the same account they used to apply for their pre-college program.
Temple Pre-College students are required to attend all classes regularly and punctually. Participation and attendance are important factors in gaining the most from these programs. A student should not miss more than two classes and should arrive on time each day. Excessive absences or tardiness may result in dismissal from the program.
Excused absences are permitted in the event of illness or family emergency. Residential students must notify their Pre-College Mentor by 9:00 a.m. the day of the absence. The custodial parents or guardians of commuting students should notify the Temple Pre-College office by 9:00 a.m. if their student will be absent that day. Absence notifications can be sent via email to precollege@temple.edu.
We encourage pre-college students to stay for the weekend and will provide on- or off-campus activities on Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays. However, we do recognize that some students may need to leave for some or all of the weekend.
During the program, your student will be able to initiate an online request to leave campus for the weekend. The request will be sent to the parent or guardian email on file for approval. Once the request is approved, we will work with the student to ensure they leave campus only with their approved contact. Please be advised that no other forms of request (e.g. email, voicemail) will be accepted, and that photo IDs will be checked to determine that the a student leaves only with the person indicated on the request form.
Residential students have meals and snacks included as part of their pre-college program. Commuting students have lunch included each day.
Some families may wish to send their student with spending money for additional snacks, souvenirs, and other items (e.g. food off campus when students go on trips, etc.). There are multiple locations on Temple's campus that sell food and other supplies, and that accept cash or credit. If you do want to send additional funds with your student, we recommend doing so on a pre-paid debit card or on a credit card where they are an authorized user, or another electronic payment system like ApplePay.
Cash is not recommended because cards can be replaced if lost, and cash cannot. If you send a credit card, we also recommend having a conversation with your student about expected spending limits.
The safety of our students is of utmost importance to Temple University. Because pre-college students are minors, there are additional safety policies in place for them. Safety policies are posted on our FAQ page.
Temple University no longer requires COVID-19 vaccination for students, faculty or staff. Temple strongly recommends that students, faculty and staff stay current on all age-appropriate vaccinations, including for COVID-19, as the vaccine continues to prevent severe disease.
Please review the following policies with your student prior to their arrival on campus. These policies are also published in your student’s onboarding forms under “My Applications” in their noncredit.temple.edu student account.
