Calling all transfer students! The fall semester is getting closer and closer, and we can't wait to welcome you as Temple Owls. We know this can be a hectic and overwhelming time, so we prepared this simple list of ways you can make your transfer process a breeze.
- Nuts and bolts
First, check to make sure you've completed all the necessary steps to enroll.
If you haven't paid your deposit yet, there's still time! Head to "Next Steps" on TUportal to pay your tuition deposit and choose Temple.
Next, you'll want to complete Temple Preview, an online pre-Orientation module. You'll be directed to fulfil a number of tasks, such as submitting your OWLcard photo and completing placement assessments for your classes. Once you're finished, you can head to TUportal to register for Orientation.
Next up is, you guessed it, signing up for Orientation! This is where you'll meet your new peers, touch base with an Owl team leader (in other words, an experienced student who can show you the ropes of being an Owl) and, most importantly, register for classes.
2. Make yourself at home
If you're interested in living on campus, this one's for you! On-campus housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis for transfer students once you make both your enrollment AND housing deposits (this means you'll want to do it ASAP to have the most housing options to choose from!). Once you pay the housing deposit, you will be given a housing selection time based on when you deposited. The housing selection process opened in May, so you really don't want to delay!
When it's your turn to select your housing, you'll want to visit Temple's housing website for a step-by-step guide on how to sign up. It has everything from how to select your roomies to deposits and dining plans—head over there and familiarize yourself with the process to make signing up simple!
3. Credit where credit is due
At Orientation, you'll be able to plan out which courses to take based on what transfer credits you already have. While you're getting ready for the semester to start, you may want to use this time to plan out what courses you'll need to take in the future, and make sure you have everything in place for your credits to transfer over. Our Transfer Equivalency Tool is a great resource for this!
4. Get ready to move
This is another one for folks moving into on-campus housing. You've probably done it before, but it bears repeating: Move-in is a marathon, not a sprint. Make sure you stay hydrated, take breaks and have a game plan. To make sure you pack everything you need for the big move, be sure to check out our checklist made specifically for Temple students.
5. Celebrate!
Once you're settled in, keep an eye out for Convocation and Weeks of Welcome, two of Temple's signature events for new students!
Convocation is a ceremony to kick off your college experience. It's the first time you and the entire new class of Owls will be in the same room together, and you'll get to celebrate with a pep rally featuring Temple athletes, the university president and provost, and everyone's favorite bird, Hooter.
Weeks of Welcome are several days' worth of festivities that start the moment you set foot on campus and don't stop until classes start. Meet new friends at a campus carnival, play games at campus rec facilities, learn about the 440+ option for student orgs you can join, try a new food truck and so much more during these days celebrating Y-O-U!
