Hello! My name is Ganesh (he/him), and I am a senior Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience major with a minor in Clinical and Health Psychology. I am also on the Pre-Med track. I’ve lived in the suburbs of Northern Virginia for most of my life, so moving away from home and coming to Philadelphia was definitely a new and somewhat daunting experience for me. However, by being in the Honors Program, I became a part of a large but tight-knit community of supporting, caring, and inspiring friends on whom I could always depend. The Honors courses I took also helped me form stronger bonds with my professors and peers, especially with our smaller class sizes. Every course is unique in its own way, and they have challenged and driven me to think more critically about the field that I’m majoring in and the world around me. There are also a variety of ways anyone could get involved on-campus at Temple! For our Honors program, in addition to being an ambassador, I am also a member of the Honors Student Forum. I am also part of a few student organizations, such as our university’s American Medical Student Association premedical chapter (TUAMSA), the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (TUFIMRC), and the Undergraduate Neuroscience Society, and I am also a scientific reviewer for our undergraduate neuroscience journal, Grey Matters. Research opportunities are also abundant here! I previously was part of a lab in the Center for Inflammation and Lung Research at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) through the Undergraduate Research Program, and currently, I am working on a research project in a lab at LKSOM’s Shriners Pediatric Research Center that is aimed at finding better ways to treat spinal cord injuries. I have additionally found numerous volunteer opportunities here at Temple and in the city! I volunteer in the “At Your Service” Intern Program and the Emergency Department at the Temple University Hospital, and last year, I became a Co-Leader for our Emergency Department Volunteer Program. I also regularly volunteer at our university’s food pantry, the Cherry Pantry, and I volunteer from time to time for organizations like Hub of Hope and Philly House in the city. Thanks for reading! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I wish you the very best!
